Steve Carrell and I in a Video
I think this is as close to Steve Carrell as I’m going to get, given that he’s bagging The Office Convention this weekend. But I’m still honored to see his ad for “Dan in Real Life” appearing on my YouTube video.

I’ve always had a brain crush on Seth Godin, and used to preach his gospel when I worked at an interactive agency pre-bubble burst. But I had lost touch with the author since his Purple Cow book, and was glad to get a dose of his new “tribal marketing” insights last week in NYC. Here’s…
We’ve issued a press release on the GooTube Conspiracy, and the “participative storytelling” has taken some interesting directions even since we wrote the release. Here’s the creative challenge. The various plot branches are missing a trunk, as one of the videographers mentioned last night. Some of the characters — who submitted videos unsolicited — are asking…
I’ve written plenty about how to become a YouTube star (see free eBook v2 and “Beyond Viral“), but today’s post is the first of a series about the persistence of some top YouTube talent. It’s one thing to break through the clutter and develop a following, but quite another thing to maintain it… the latter…
While Google/YouTube may change the dynamic of video search, it’s still hopelessly frustrating to find a video online. Wall Street Journal writer Jessica Vascellaro wrote a nice article on video search today. I liked it not just because it was the first time I’ve been mentioned in the Wall Street Journal. The article shows that companies have made significant efforts…
Interesting article from PBS MediaShift about the nuances of the YouTube homepage. As many have discovered, an editor’s pick on YouTube is a career-changing moment. Take Mark Day with his Smiley Intervention. He’s transformed from a local California comedian to an “web-lebrity.” I have nightmares about his bald face against a yellow wall. This MediaShift piece also clarifies…
YouTube is ending 2006 with dozens of technical support problems, and customer service that is reminiscent of AOL when it had a virtual monopoly. In fact, YouTubers have organized a “Bed In” to bring the company’s attention to problems. Ironically many can’t participate because the site, for days, hasn’t accepting videos in a timely manner….

Better his ad than the one for Viagra that was popping up last week.
You so wanna do him!
Kevin, you guys do have a lot in common! You both look like you just sat through UDM’s 30min video! Go ahead, say it! You know you’re a level 9.999 fan when it comes to UDM!
lol @ nutcheese!
Better than nothing right? I’m still trying to get some of my friends to go with me to the convention. Even though Steve won’t be there I’ll be able to see Ed Helms. We have a lot in common…well the same first name at least.
For some reason I don’t think I would have much fun going alone. That would seem a little stalker-ish to me.
whos steve carrell? i thought i was the only steve on the planet? o well,i guess there might be one or 2 others? ROFDLMFAO@nutcheese!(the d is for drunk, you all probably know the rest)
see if you can find a cardboard cut out of him at the convention. You can take it out to dinner and ask him/it for advice on editing your videos, play three way catch, you charlie and steve…
