Judson Laipply (Evolution of Dance) Promotes Crank Movie August 31, 2006
Posted by Nalts in : Online Video , 4commentsNote to Huffington Post readers: Judson Laipply is the guy that did the “Evolution of Dance” video that remains one of YouTube’s most popular videos (nearing 40 million views). Had he been paid even a fraction of a penny for each view, he’d be able to retire from that video. Thankfully as of Jan.27, 2007 YouTube has plans to pay content creators a portion of ad dollars. They finally took my advice from last July. ![]()
Not sure it will be as generous of a portion as Revver, blip.tv and Metacafe, but the sheer volume of YouTube means this could be a big day for creators like me… the viral video genius
If you’re interested in online video (creators, viewers, advertisers), please stick around WillVideoForFood.com.
Now onto the regular post (from last August):
This one’s done well. It’s the second video Judson Laipply posted (his first is an all-time most popular on YouTube). Judson and Pedro (from Napolean Dynamite) dance.
This one’s a subtle promotion for Crank. It avoids, for the most part, all of the 7 Deadly Sins of Viral Video Advertising. Here’s why I liked it:
- The title isn’t about Crank- it’s about dancing and borrows on the Laipply fame and Napolean Dynamite
- The video is irreverant- shows them dancing together and assures us they aren’t gay
- The editing and camera work is virally sloppy
- The movie is not the central point- but gets mention early, frequently and with a “call to action”
- The best humor comes from Laipply’s self-depricating false ego (and wonderfully awkward moment where they both stop smiling)
- It was posted by Laipply not by the promotion team for Crank
I hope Laipply was well compensated for sharing his fame with Crank.
Cubicle War 2006 (hysterical) August 30, 2006

If you don’t find this funny then you should have a doctor check you for comedic anemia. Here’s “Barats and Bereta” (creators of the famous “Mother’s Day Card“) with the comedy duo’s latest contribution to viral video.
I give you “Winward Reports: Cubicle War 2006.” If these two can’t make money through viral video, we’re all doomed.
To see more, visit their Barats & Bereta website or see their YouTube channel (a top 20 for subscriptions).
P.S. Mother’s Day was viewed more than 1 million times, but I’m convinced that’s actually 500K people watching it twice each. You can’t watch any of these just once.
Remembering Katrina August 29, 2006

Today’s the 1-year-anniversary of the storm. Have things improved?
How Much Money Have You Made? August 28, 2006

Bed Bugs Are Pooping on Your Pillow August 28, 2006
Posted by Nalts in : Killer Video, Online Video, Viral Video, popular videos , 14commentsSo this guy at work tells me that 10% of the weight of an old pillow is Bed Bug feces. It grosses me out. Then I figured I’d “pay it forward” by getting you a little worried. As you lay your head to rest tonight, know you’re joined by thousands of bed bugs who are eating your skin flakes and pooping all over your sheets.
Want to see what they look like UP CLOSE? Check this video of my wife and I as we explore this new realization. On the bright side… you’ll never sleep alone again.

Truth in Blogging: Disclosure About New Blog Sponsor August 28, 2006

I think it’s important for readers of “Will Video for Food” to know that this blog will be, effective September 1, sponsored by an advertiser. I will, of course, maintain complete objectivity in my reporting of online trends, video websites and techniques for getting your videos and ads seen and discussed. That’s paramount to the spirit of “WillVideoForFood.”
Starting Friday, this blog will be brought to you by the letter T.
In recent weeks, I have been working closely with the “National Association of Letter ’T’ Advancement” in Alexandria, Virginia. NALTA receives funding from several large brands and companies that begin with the letter T. For more details visit their website as I’m not comfortable mentioning them all here. NALTA has flown me to Washington, D.C., and taken me to some very fine restaurants (including The Palm, which technically doesn’t begin with T unless you count the “the”). NALTA also bought me a new laptop (it’s a Toshiba obviously), a few cases of Tangueray, and countless t-shirts for me and my family. So I’m very excited about the letter T but I also have deep respect for the other 25 letters of our alphabet.
I will make a special effort to not include too many mentions to the letter T in my blog posts. However sometimes it’s unavoidable, and I know you’ll understand. For example, I can’t very well mention YouTube, advertising or television without the letter T.
I’d like to thank you readers, and thank the letter T and NALTA for recognizing the value of promoting its brands to the vibrant audience of “Will Video for Food.”
It’s T time!
