If anyone tells you they know what will go “viral,” they’re lying. We all know the general rules: short, comedic, shocking, funny, sexy. But even those of us immersed in this space are surprised about what we think will go viral (like “Filthy Little Lemon” or “YouTube is My Wife“) and what viewers actually like….

Poor Google and YouTube. PC Magazine, which we closet-nerds hide better than teenagers with Playboy, is now saying the two sites have lost their cool. What a great way to promote the new Madden video game. Madden crushes the videos adjacent to his video ad. Not the first use of an ad interacting with surrounding content, but a brilliant application. Hats off to the agency. Dare you identify yourself?
Remember that video curation was supposed to be all the rage last year and 2011? I’m still not seeing it get enough attention, but that will change as online-video consumption moves from desktop to simpler devices: mobile and remote controls. Why? Sans keyboard, it’s just not as easy to self-select videos, so we’ll need simpler…
