TubeMogul: 1 GB Per-Video Distribution, Upload, Analytics and File Backup

TubeMogul upgraded its total file size to 1 GB, and Brett Wilson (its CEO and founder) claims they did it for me (I begged).

You see, if you’re posting videos online, you might as well post everywhere you can (even if 95% of your views are on YouTube). As long as you set up your own accounts on the dozens of sites that TubeMogul feeds, you can upload once and be done.

But I’m also adamant about uploading the maximum size because I still regret compressing my earlier videos for convenience. So until now, I’ve been creating a Tubemogul version (under 300MB) and a YouTube version (up to 1GB). Now life is simple again because TubeMogul raised its limit to 1 GB!

TubeMogul also allows you to run reports on all of your video views, regardless of website. It’s also an easy way to find out if one of the smaller sites is featuring your video (since I don’t exactly visit blip.tv daily).

There’s another secret benefit to TubeMogul. Even if you have 13 hard drives, you’re bound to lose a video file or two. TubeMogul, unlike most of the video-sharing sites it feeds, allows you to download your old videos in their original file format (as opposed to a compressed or converted files). This has saved me a couple times.

I write often about TubeMogul because there’s nothing else like it, and it’s free to creators. Sometimes I feel guilty that they don’t charge me, so I pimp them so I can sleep at night.

I’d sleep even better at night, if TubeMogul replaced that tired thumbnail of Brett from its homepage… and maybe put up a Nalts video or something. Or a quote from me: “If you’re not using TubeMogul to distribute and monitor your videos, then you’re probably the guy who misses rotary phones and 56K modems.”

  1. I like Tubemogul, think it’s a great idea, had some problems early on, but those seem to be resolved.

on another note I’m wondering… are people uploading fewer videos these days or am I just getting picky?

Have we reached saturation or is the thrill gone?

Has places like joost, hulu and vemo taken over?

Is it the economy or did everyone go back to reading books?

  2. @2 – I recently watched an old “cult of nalts” song copy, and was amazed at all the old “friends” from way back then, and wonder how many of them still are making videos. I lost touch with everybody (and some say, with reality, as well). Killed my channel, made a new one with no content and only subscribe to half a dozen people. The only persistently fruitful creator is Nalts, not counting the Michael Buckley types.

Anyway – TubeMogul (which Nalts has been promoting, like, forever, both him and MDJ) is only meaningful to those who actually make content and want it to be seen. Which doesn’t include me. Yawn.

  3. My mother believes that the Wheel of Fortune game show is the only ‘fruitful’ show on TV.

Teenagers don’t make videos but crap on those who make anything other than video game videos. We call them trolls.

  4. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.

  5. I remember how cool i felt when I had a 14.4k modem…

I use TubeMogul but I need to sign up to all those other sites it has available. Procrastination takes over…

  6. @2

I’ve made a lot fewer videos recently. For me, it’s just because I’m freakin’ busy. I canceled my last two live shows (though I should be going live on this Tuesday night).

Hopefully very soon I can amuse you with showers of amateurish, cheaply made drivel.

  7. Man, I could so go a rotary phone right now.
The comforting slow twirl of the dial, the mechanism ticking over.

    Feels good man.

  8. I laughed my ass off the first time I uploaded a video and saw YouTube’s maximum size of 1GB. “Who the HELL would waste 1 GIGABYTE of bandwidth uploading (Or WATCHING, for that matter) a video?!”

I still think that. It’s absolutely mind-boggling to try and comprehend doing that, when I have a 3gig per month cap! But now that I read how someone actually appreciates it, it just makes me feel sick to realise how cheap and inexpensive bandwidth is in the so-called “developed” world. 🙁 🙁
