What Would Spongebob Do? WWSD?

What would Spongebob do (WWSD) if he found a fan remix of one of his ditties on YouTube? He’d rejoice. But Mr. Crabs? Probably send YouTube a DCMA “take-down” letter. It’s happened before with my homage to Cartoon Network’s Finn & Jake’s beloved “Treetrunks.”

Nonetheless, here’s my remix of the lovely “Musical Doodle” earworm from a recent episode that doesn’t appear to be available online. Certainly Nickelodeon may object, but I can’t find the full episode on Nick.com (just this snippet I used to remix this video).

And the problem with the Nick.com snippet is that I don’t want the comedic tension with Mr. Crabs and Squidward “busting the buzz.” I just want unbridled Spongebob singing like he hasn’t sung since the F.U.N. song. Weeee! Sure I could keep this clip to myself, but again… what would Spongebob do? He’d share it with the world!

Of course my remix has advertisements turned off (I don’t have it “monetized”). So while I’d contend I’m safe within the “spirit” of copyright law (promoting/celebrating the show and the episode, not cannibalizing Nick revenue or using it for commercial gains), the letter of the law says this is a no-no.

Do you suppose Nick’s reaction will be more Patrick (ah, have a go!) or Plankton (must steal crabby patty formula!)? If you see my responseofnalts account vanish, you’ll know… In the meantime, “listen again it takes you far away… trying to stop it is futile… do do do do do do do do doooo do.”

Best Parody of Oscar Trailers: Meet BritAnick

This is so clever, and well executed. It’s a spoof of every moment of every trailer you’ve seen for Oscar-Award-Winning movie trailers. But it’s self aware. Thanks to George from YouTube for including it in his e-mail footer.

Folks it’s content like this that makes the viewer in me very excited, and the creator hope that my 15 minutes aren’t completely done.

BritAnick (pronounced to rhyme with Titanic) are not new to YouTube (see channel), and are Brian McElhaney and Nick Kocher, and they met in Atlanta and have a manager. But to be clear, they’re at this moment far, far less popular than me on YouTube. Okay?

The reality is that I like to see people like this zoom past me. It’s not great for my ego, but it’s inevitable and deserving. Let the shakedown continue. Or as one YouTube employee says, “the popularity race is representing a marathon, where the distance between the popularity grows as the race continues.”

Did I mention I’m a sprinter at best?

And, yo, Brian or Nick… ready for a collab so you’ll remember me when you get to the top? What? You haven’t heard of a collab’s ability to propel your popularity on YouTube? Oh you should read this crap.

YouTube’s Fred Appears on Nick’s iCarly This Week

Well you heard about it here back in September 2008, but YouTube’s most-subscribed “Fred” finally makes his appearance on Nick’s iCarly. The episode airs on Nick this Monday, February 16 at 7:30 EDT (source).

In this debut for Fred, iCarly’s Freddie (played by Nathan Kress) declares his disgust for Fred, and Fred stops making videos. See Fred’s promo below…
