Create Portable YouTube Subscribe Button (as widget, iframe, html)

Make your own YouTube subscribe button as an iFrame widget

On a visit to Smosh.com, I noticed the fellas had a little widget that recognized me as Nalts and had a subscribe button. So I snatched the HTML iFrame thingy, and managed to insert it as a wordpress widget. iFrames usually make my blog puke, but they’re working okay.

Here’s the code:

Just copy the above, paste it into your blog, and change “Nalts” to your username. I changed the pixel hight to 120 and the width to 200.

Rinse, repeat.

eBaums Features My Worst Video Ever… L33t Dwarf Horses

eBaums featured my worst video ever a few hours ago. It’s called “l33t dwarf horses,” and it’s a parody of “Internet gaming speak.” It was inspired by DigitalPh33r (see recent post on him). For more about l33t, see this Wikipedia entry. Or the Urban Dictionary version of it.

eBaums must have ripped the video from some website, and posted it. So I just set up my own Nalts account, posted the same video, and asked them to provide correct attribution.

Then again, with 224 scathing comments (in just four hours) and a 1/5 star rating, maybe I don’t want credit…

Insert YouTube Video URL in YouTube Comments

picture-3.pngYouTube doesn’t allow you to embed a URL in the comments field, so here’s an easy trick to reference a video in the comments section.

  1. Open the video you want to reference
  2. Copy the 11-digit alphanumeric code after the = sign.
  3. Paste that code
  4. If you see an 11-digit code you want to watch, just open any video and paste it over the existing 11-digit code. Or paste this code, followed by the 11-digit code: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=
  5. If you’re using a Mac, the Apple-C is a shortcut for “copy,” and Apple-V (correction, thanks to comment) will paste. PCs use Option-C or Option-V. This saves a mess of time versus using the “file insert” method on the menu.

Likewise, here on WVFF WordPress puts any of your comments with embedded URLs into the “moderated” section, and I don’t approve those in a timely manner. So you can just replace your own URL with the URL to where you want to link people.

YouTube Hack: Watching Blocked Videos

YouTube HackJischinger has identified one way of watching blocked YouTube videos (assuming they block only the standard URL). This may not work for everyone, and your last resort is a free “virtual tunnel.” I have used vtunnel before but it requires a major virus wipe after a few sessions. It’s not a safe way to surf.

To watch blocked YouTube videos, simply grab the alpha numeric code from the URL (starting after the = sign) and paste it after this URL: http://www.youtube.com/v/.

Got it? It gives you a full screen image. Example:

To this:

http://youtube.com/v/YFmAtmquNrg
