YouTube & Universal Launch Vevo. YouTube Feather. Yawn.

Vevo is live. Whatever.

We like YouTube Feather better… a simplified YouTube experience. Wait… never mind. We can’t tell the difference. But it’s designed to:

…serve YouTube video watch pages with the lowest latency possible. It achieves this by severely limiting the features available to the viewer and making use of advanced web techniques for reducing the total amount of bytes downloaded by the browser. It is a work in progress and may not work for all videos.

  1. @1 I agree, looks like Hulu…I tried watching 3 videos and they each had a pre-roll ad, NO THANKS!

Funny thing is if I ever see another Jimmy Dean sausage pre-roll ad on YT I think I’m gonna barf.

  2. So is this Vevo thing just for just for music videos or what? If it is, I’m not interested. I don’t listen to much music. Especially not the crummy pop music that is usually played over and over (and over and over…) on the radio. Not if I can help it anyway.

  3. VEVO could be the on-demand replacement for radio/what MTV used to be if they play their cards right. By that, I mean get it into set-top boxes, get it onto smartphones, get it everywhere someone wants to listen to music (and *possibly* watch the video).

The video is less important with music, as there are people who “hate the video, love the song” (and vice versa). But it can’t be Hulu for music videos. It has to be THE music experience of the next decade. Otherwise, it’s literally the most worthless thing the record companies could badger YouTube into doing.
