Comments on: YouTube’s Homepage Not as Important as Google’s “Secret Sauce”

Very well thought out and written post Kevin.

The whole issue isn’t about the change on the front page which I haven’t even looked at in ages but the special secret sauce.

There are a number of people speculating (for reasons I do not know) that the wall between these new professional videos (as if nalts videos are amateur) and user generated content will extend into the secret special sauce. I am excited at go to toe2toe with Mickey and Goofy and my animations in a battle on my home turf. But according to some (The Sky is Fallofautumndistro) “our” videos will not show in related videos with “their” videos and that all the bells and whistles will directing traffic away from “our” videos toward “their” videos because Google will be to charge substantially more for ads on “their” videos.

For me that special secret sauce has been a source for hundreds of thousands of views if not millions. So I guess I gotta say I am a little concerned if the introduce a new recipe. At the same time I think I’ll wait and see how it all plays out rather than join those in full panic mode. Because basically I see this as potentially huge opportunity for good content creators like Nalts, etc.

@17 Sorry the dang spam filter grabs them and I almost never remember to unlock them. I think we need a Marquis “how to” video- how to fix bathtub sludge, f’ with your sister, repair the washing machine, and the haunted smoke detectors. BTW- cheapest tapes at B&H. Less than a couple dollars each.

I’ve tried lots of different ways to find interesting video content, but mostly I just watch videos by the people I subscribe to. I’ve tried the YouTube personal recommendations, but their recommendation algorithm has a ways to go before it produces viable results!!! I also bookmark certain channels that I don’t want to subscribe to. For instance, I bookmark Associated Press (for news) since they produce too many videos and hence crowd out the videos of the other people I subscribe to on my subscriptions list!
