I LOVE my DVR. Of course, I got lucky with mine. It's an older version with the lifetime TiVo subscription (which they don't even offer any more) that I got on eBay for less than the cost of the lifetime subscription. Of course, I'll never be able to get a new one, because I'm too cheap to pay $12.95 a month or whatever it is for a TiVo subscription these days. I don't even have cable. But, like I said before, I only watch what I want, when I want. With no commercials. It's wonderful.

Sukatra- get a DVR. Your world will change. You'll watch less TV but better TV. Actually I don't use the DVR that much anymore. My kids and wife do, though.

You spelled voracious just fine, sukatra.

I could never completely give up reading; I enjoy it too much. Although having a laptop makes it too easy for me to just veg out and watch YouTube and surf for porn.

I rarely watch TV shows online. I like lounging on my couch while I watch the tube I also don't have a DVR. I know. Neanderthal. I also never read anymore. I was a voracious reader before i discovered youtube and stickam, etc. Now i can barely remember one sentence at a time. If I misspelled voracious, bite me.

DVR is the greatest invention since sliced bread. I watch what I want, when I want, for the most part. Although my husband abuses it by constantly rewinding, I find a DVR much more useful than a VCR. Haven't used my VCR in ages.

Wife watches TV. I watch online. RSS and YT as well as watching GMAIL for responses to my posts have taken most of my TV watching time. I do pay for an DVR so I can blow through the TV stuff with a minimum of BS commercial banter. SO! The answer is! Not only are the kids watching less TV. So are we middle aged old farts.

I actually watch TV and online video at the same time; I am nothing if not a multi-tasker. However, I USED to read and watch TV at the same time. I still read, but not as much. Online video (and this blog) seem to have taken the place of most of my reading. I don't really think that's a good thing. But once you get sucked in, it's hard to wean yourself off the online video teat.
