Madvidpulation August 12, 2007

Ever heard of the term “Madvidpulation”? Of course not. Because I made it up today.

But here’s the concept. Real video clips that mislead the view into concluding a story that isn’t true.

Here’s my example via Revver. I also did an alternative that was more for YouTube.

Did I madvidpulate you?

Man, you are really feeling the guilt over the “this isn’t the real me” thing, aren’t you. I feel that all the time. I get comments saying “I can tell you and your son have a great relationship” or “you guys have so much fun together” or “you’re such a great mom” and all the time I’m thinking, if they saw all the arguing and yelling and pouting that goes on in our house they’d boo me off youtube.

The only thing that helps me is that I think everybody has the same problem - you only see a small portion of their lives and personalities in their videos. The rest of the time they’re snorting coke and dancing at the local strip club. Or shoplifting software to make better videos.

Isn’t that basically the same thing that commercial marketing has been doing for years?
